HISTORY

It was a contaminard, Mr Ernest Mollard, who along with his wife in the 1930's, built and opened to holidaymakers a chalet which he called :
"LE CHALET RESTAURANT DES SPORTS"
.

While still continuing his activities as a peasant farmer, he made Colombaz the high spot for the first winter sports in Les Contamines and a stop off point appreciated by hikers.

In 1938, he lost his only son to whom he had promised the business and he sold Colombaz to Georges Saunier, a writer related to Samivel who took up residence during the second world war. A chapter in his book.

Later, Mr RAFFORT ran the inn until the middle of 1950's with great success.

Following this, the building changed hands several times and was left more or less abandoned.

Mr Roger Bouvard reopened the chalet during the summers of 1979 and 1980.

In 1993, Jeannot et Pascale Girard, with the agreement of the SECMH (latter owner) decided to renovate the buiding and to take over the management of the Auberge de COLOMBAZ only to become owners themselves in 2000.

Today, Jeannot et Pascale strive to keep the authentic caractere of the auberge and propose specialities which made the inn successful in former times. Visitors can still find :

A bar where one can quench one's thirst with cold or hot drinks depending on the season,
A panoramic and sunny terrace for a refreshing or gastronomic stop off point,
A cosy restaurant with seating for 40 where visitors can come with family or friends to taste the typical savoy specialities.
